ARTIST STATEMENT
CLAIRE MCARDLE
Claire McArdle is a jewellery and object maker with an interest in tools, performance and making processes.
The act of making is performed while walking in these two works. The rollers imprint images into aluminium discs which are then made into neckpieces. Frequently, making actions are left obscured, with only the finished object being observable. These works reinterpret making processes into performative tools.
WALK (2021) was performed during a COVID-19 lockdown in Melbourne, representing tools chosen by jewellery and object makers interviewed during my PhD. Sticky Everlasting Daisy (2023) was performed at Bilk Gallery among the flowers that it depicts.
