ARTIST STATEMENT

SITENG WEI

My research project examines traditional Chinese arts in relation to Australian landscapes, exploring fictional and imaginary environments through my works. My studio practice delves into the concept of Chinese Shan Shui, encompassing Chinese ink and water landscape painting, scholar's rocks, and miniature landscapes. I investigate various Australian landscapes and sites, interpreting the organic shapes and textures of rock formations found there. I view the crafting of jewellery pieces as a manifestation of the inner self and a reaction to my surroundings. My practice continually integrates Chinese arts with Australian landscapes, interpreting these landscapes through my unique cultural perspective.
