ARTIST STATEMENT
MOQIAN WANG
Moqian Wang is a practicing jewellery artist working in Melbourne who was raised in China and Australia. Moqian’s practice is founded in material experimentation with an influence of traditional Chinese craft practice, including enamelling and metal embroidery. Tension is the key element in Moqian’s work. The juxtaposition of boldness and delicacy runs through her work, contradicts and reinforces the subject: breaking and fixing. Her work is not only about aesthetic presentation, but more of a visceral expression. The contradiction, the entanglement, the emotion is expressed through the choice of colour, making process, and materials.
