ARTIST STATEMENT

ISABELLA HOPE-MILLER

These are some of my favourite artworks that I created over the covid period. They are a snapshot into my past and are representative of who I was at the time. I have changed a lot since then.

My choices in material were informed largely by my lack of studio access, particularly over the lockdown itself. However, my practice has always leaned towards the multidisciplinary, often using a range of materials and using sculptural aspects.

Although I did not realise it at the time, I cannot help but think that these works all reflect the trapped feeling of the lockdowns: the leaves - the outside world, the paw — a defensive feeling of being trapped, and the bird — freedom. Notably, each of these works brought the outside inside in some way.
