ARTIST STATEMENT
VIVIAN QIU
Vivian Qiu’s jewellery explores rice as a material, the ancient Chinese language and cultural identity. She makes culturally significant materials such as rice fabric, rice clay and soil clay. Her home culture inspires the creation of rice material. When she was sick as a kid, her mum would make her plain rice congee. It's a healing food for your body and mind. Her making process is quite meditative and intuitive. Our body knows the answers. While making jewellery, she listens to her body sensations and lets the material inform her design thinking.
