ARTIST STATEMENT
STEPHANIE RACHAEL CORTHORNE
I create works that are both monumental & micro. I draw on the rich palettes of surrounding landscapes & discarded materials, transforming them to blur the line between ‘wearable’ & ‘unwearable’. I believe in sustainable practices and trying to use what you already have. I probe the role of jewellery and objects in attachment, suffering, identity, & relationships. My interest in deep ecology pushes me to explore new methods of creating. I utilise collecting, alteration, & re-contextualisation to evoke & inscribe new narratives. I juxtapose high & low, pop & grit, old & new, to create new worlds within my art.
