ARTIST STATEMENT

JESSIE HACK

My work reveals raw emotions through tactile metal forms, transforming discarded cupcake paper and mussel shells into intricate adornments. In Kaimoana and Cake, I contrast the textures of seafood and cake to reflect a blend of European and Polynesian traditions, using rich metal surfaces and vibrant, textured elements to evoke the complexity of celebratory food and Polynesian adornment. That's How The Light Gets In explores emotional and physical strain by pushing metal to its breaking point, exposing fractures through which light symbolizes potential for renewal. My art connects cultural memory, personal identity, and the pursuit of enlightenment.
